The Obesity Society's statement on weight discrimination. »
While the Obesity Society and American Obesity Association are engaged in the fight against obesity, they still recognize and advocate against weight discrimination. And yeah, weight discrimination is a real thing and it’s works against the efforts of obesity/dietary specialists. Obesity is about more than calorie counting and calorie burning. It’s about self-worth, emotions, abuse from others, depression, schedules, stress, sleep, physical illness, hormones, genetics, and a lot of other things that need to be seriously addressed before long-term weight loss is even an option. Discrimination only makes the situation worse.
